Cruise Controls and Speed Limiters

Cruise Controls and Speed Limiters. Cruise control (sometimes known as speed control or auto-cruise) is a system that automatically controls the speed of a motor vehicle. The system has an electronic mechanism that takes over the throttle of the car to maintain a steady speed as set by the driver.

A speed limiter is a governor used to limit the top speed of a vehicle. For some classes of vehicle and in some jurisdictions they are a statutory requirement, for some other vehicles a sped limiter provides a non-statutory system which may be fixed or programmable by the driver.
