So we couldn't remove the back seats then..! The customer made it clear that although we could "have" the boot the rest of the car must look standard and he wanted a HUGE amount of bass, plus he wanted high definition audio quality so that even when playing his bass heavy tunes he could still hear every instrument and vocal range, a very tall order, but perfectly possible using some JL Audio's finest equipment.
Firstly the vehicle was stripped down to allow a full treatment of Dynamat Sound proofing to be applied, that's all four doors and the whole of the boot and tailgate, we don't want to listen to any rattles from the car so it is always the best practice to kill any panel vibrations dead.
Next up choice of kit, well for big BASS we needed some big AMPS and big SUBS so there was only one choice, a pair of JL Audio Slash V3 1200 watt mono block amplifiers, and yes they are 1,200 watts each..! Next up a custom slot ported box made to take a pair of the mighty JL 13W7AE-D1.5 Anniversary Edition 13.5 Sub-woofers, these are extreme to say the least and should probably be kept in a Zoo.
So thats the 2,400 watts of bass taken care of, pardon...best look at getting some audio in the car now, so lets keep the theme going with a JL Audio Slash V3 300/4v3 which is "only" 4 x 75 watts and to keep the driver happy we fitted the top of the range JL Audio ZR650-CSi into the front doors and then for some "rear fill" and to keep his two young children entertained we fitted a set of JL Audio C2-650 into the rear doors. So that's all the audio stuff done, now how best to get it tuned up, only one answer the Audison Bit Ten D Processor allowing a full 30 band EQ and time alignment to really get the system alive, and boy does it do that in buckets, sheer outstanding vocals, with clean and dynamic sound reproduction, and first class imaging and staging, you actually feel as if you are in a concert hall, even more so at normal listening levels, this system delivers truly remarkable performance, and when you want to go large, turn up the sub level on the DRC Controler and crank up the volume and boy oh boy you had better hang on to your fillings..!
